January News
Hi writers!
Happy New Year! Can I still say that midway through the month? You know what? … I’m going to go for it.
Thanks to those of you who took my classes in the Fall, whether through OLLI or the Durham County Library. It was such a pleasure to work with all of you!
Here are some updates and new opportunities for learning in the coming months:
NEW CLASS IN MARCH: First – the news you can use: I am offering a new non-fiction/memoir 6-week workshop class on Monday mornings in March/April at The Mothership Co-Working + Event Space. This class is tailored toward writers who are versed in workshop settings and want to delve deeper into writing stories about their life. Check out more information here. If you sign up for the class before February 15th you will receive a discount. Get on it!
DEMAN WEEKEND: I was thrilled to participate in Duke University’s Entertainment, Media and the Arts Network weekend in November. I got to tour the gorgeous new Rubinstein Arts Center, connect with other alumni and was asked to be a panelist on the Page, Pen and Podcast panel. I think my favorite part was participating in the Student-Alumni Portfolio Reviews where I had the opportunity to meet a fantastic undergraduate playwright. Can’t wait to see what she does with the play that we workshopped. I am so excited for Duke’s renewed commitment to the arts. Thanks and congratulations to Amy Unell for creating such an invigorating and creative weekend!
DURHAM WRITERS’ SALON: Most of you might know that I host a free (!!) monthly writing salon every second Tuesday of the month from 7-9pm at the Mothership Co-Working + Event Space. In the new year – along with working from prompts, as usual – I’m also making time to focus around a single creative question. Last month the question was “what’s the biggest thing keeping you from achieving your creative goals?”, and it prompted an enlightening conversation and ideas that encouraged these writers to bust through their roadblocks. Check the Salon out on Facebook. Our next salon is on Tuesday February 12th from 7-9pm.
Please be in touch if you have any questions about all these happenings. I hope we get the chance to work together soon. Wishing you creative energy, flow and lots of creative collaboration in 2019.
Yours,
Allison
